Elysium was insufferable and its sociopolitical themes, despite being what interested me in the movie, were heavy-handed not really explored.

I want to register objection to your claim such themes were "visionary." Elysium came out in 2013, two calendar years after Occupy demonstrations broke out across the country, and a very long time indeed after Karl Marx! 😉

Truly the worst film I have ever seen. It took all of my will power not to leave the cinema before the end. Poor script bad acting by most off the cast and cliche gang members. Come back number five all is forgiven.

This film was close to District but not in a harmful, repetitive way but in a sense of you know who is directing it. No matter what you say of Ninja and YoLandi, they did their parts beautifully in a sense of playing themselves and putting the movie where it was supposed to go. I felt at the end that the movie was better than district 9 in the sense it left you with more hope then a homeless, lonely alien waiting for his new found brethren to return for him and their revenge on the ignorant humans who mistreated them. This movie was magical and left me wanting more.

"District 9" was a promising first film, but I\’m not sure why Blomkamp is being held to the standard that he is. One good movie out the gate doesn\’t equal prodigy. With "Elysium" and now the mixed reviews of this, I\’m thoroughly confused by the buzz.

On using Die Antwoord. I understand that using Musicians always brings in a crowd. And I\’ve watched Die Antwoord and they\’re awesome on stage. But South Africa has a crap load of talented trained professionals who are more than willing to work, so in terms of building the industry it\’s an absolute waste to have used them. Honestly, it pisses me off almost as much as the fact that South Africans still have to wait a week for the cinematic release. I\’m a little tired of Sharlto\’s range as well, so I\’m not looking forward to this. I hope it\’ll make bank, but I don\’t really think it will do as well as it could from what I\’ve read and heard.

Elysium started out great, had nice sub-plots, but the final good guy/bad guy battle seemed half hearted. All he needs to do is redo the last 20 minutes to fix it. Waiting. Waiting…

Sure you\’ve addressed it throughout your coverage to this point, although I\’ve admittedly been avoiding most of it so as to not build up or squash my hopes for Blomkamp redemption, but I have a ritual of reading your guys final paragraph of film reviews in advance of screening a one I have planned to check out all along and am beyond thrilled – and decidedly surprised – to read Zimmer scored this one. I had assumed Bloomkamp would bring Die Antwoord\’s producer, DJ Hitek, to the mix for scoring, but what at an intriguing prospect with Zimmer. Even more on board to check it out this weekend.
