I couldn\’t believe how terminally bad this film was. Paul Bettany was a bright spot, though…the only one for me. He was genuinely funny here and there. Poor Johnny, what\’s going on with him?

I\’m not really sure what all the whining is about and what you expected from this film? I felt it delivered what was promised a hilarious tale of an absurdly, self-important rogue who mostly succeeds due to the people that surround him (his capable manservant, his brilliant wife, and college friend/rival). We were looking for something light on a wintry day and this fit the bill!

Susan, John Sayles is a great filmmaker/writer and I also lament his lack-of-funding, but this comparison is unfair to a lighthearted comedy (which never pretebds to be anything else).

Burkiss – it does seem strange … but then referencing genitalia probably would get them the R rating?

Someone gave the filmmakers money to make this drek and the great, fantastic, underappreciated John Sayles (Lone Star, Matawan, Hudson City, She\’s The One, Eight Men Out) can\’t get the money to make one indy. Sayles could have had 10 good or great movies with this budget and written the screenplays too. Hollywood is crazy.

I\’m baffled as to why the producers decided to release this movie with an R rating. Aside from a couple of F-bombs (I counted three) it is no more adult than a Peter Sellers Pink Panther movie. There is no sex, no nudity and the violence is comic violence. Without the Fs it is PG at worst. As most of Johnny Depp\’s successes have been in the PG-13 category, why exclude so many of his fans?
