Excuse me – but if a writer changes almost everything of a novel, then, to my mind, he has changed the story into a new one. Why even compare with "Tess"? I see no point. Haven't seen the film yet, but from what I've read, I see no trace of "Tess" in it. It plays in India, for god's sake, and two major characters are morphed into one, others are left out altogether … just start seeing "Trishna" of a story of her own, then, maybe, it will make more sense. One more word to the improvised dialogue: Many of us feel that this appears like "script-writing without knowing how to do it", and it always comes out as functional and "documentary". And it mostly sucks.

Thank god! Another reviewer able to see through the "exotic" scenery into the heart of bullshit at the center of this film.

And ultimately, all the authenticity in the world doesn't mean a thing if there's no life to it." –> Pretty sure Blue Valentine was semi-improvised and you guys ate that film up. As did we all.

I could not agree moreâa major disappointment of TIFF 2011. Nice use of Kasabian, though.
