There are exactly two ways to get peace, gather a group of rational individuals who understand that violence is only to be used as a last resort and have them work and live in the same society is one way. The other way is through threat of deadly force. Since rationality is in rather short supply in the human race that means the gun, which from an egalitarian view is much superior to the sword or the bow.
