It was meant to instil conviction for what happened next. That's the beauty of the first Kick-Ass. Just when you thought the movie was leading you down a carefree, fun-filled adrenaline pumping satire, they make a u-turn and effectively (and quite emotionally) introduce you to a world of consequences that feel real, that most (if not all) other Superhero movies can barely come close to evoking. Sadly this director did not learn from his predecessor. Great review, more eloquent than my rant anyway.

Sadly, KA2 is every bit as incoherent and gratuitous as this review says. I think it fails on every level, despite spirited performances from many of the actors. I usually enjoy comic book violence and well-turned profanity, but this film didn't know how to tell a credible, human story with those elements.

No snark, satire, or irony (or whatever type of humor it was supposed to be) could bring me back into the movie after that. Based upon Jim Carrey's commentary and this review including such descriptions as "savage, carnage, violent throwdown," Kick Ass 2 seems more of the same "edgy" type of comic book violence. Had enough of that with Man of Steel. Pass.
