Franco's directing seems almost like a lark most times. If he took all the man hours and time he dedicated to 8 projects and focused it onto one, like this film, it would be impressive. He's spreading himself too thin.

the black comedy bits are taking straight out of the book. sad to hear this was not a compelling view because no doubt the story is there. fault of the filmmakers to not make the book visually appealing. i always envisioned a skinny and bedraggled daniel day lewis as lester ballard with paul thomas anderson or coen bros directing. could have been an oscar nominated movie and lead role if done right. i guess this was not.
