It was so thinly written and everything was surface level. Considering how heavily the film's marketing focused on the romance (which was not particularly well done in the novel), I'm not surprised at the lukewarm reviews the film is receiving.

Unlike amazing books like The Book Thief or The Scorpio Races, I wouldn't consider this to be one of the many fantastic YA novels that hits home with adults as well. I was hoping maybe the movie would elevate it, but apparently not.
