Great review. What was so disappointing was the elements they got right (casting, few of the gags) teased a much better movie. The charades scene was hilarious! But the digital picture frame scene was just bafflingly stupid. And all points about structure/plot/character/genre tropes was spot on. Only point to disagree on is intent, not sure the filmmakers think they were making such a genre contravention as you do. Its just too conventional. I've got a feeling funding for romcoms is contingent on formula being (mostly) followed. Otherwise the core demographic would leave unsatisfied.

I hope this isn't giving too much away, but the whole point of the movie is that they're not really meant for each other, which is WHY they find themselves attracted to other people during their marriage. They're not "monsters". Bloody hell, what an extreme reaction…

'What makes it such a burning zeppelin of a movie is that it thinks that it's doing something really inventive and irreverent, sending up the romantic comedy genre in energetic and profound new ways.' Ha ha, I think I enjoyed this review more than I'll enjoy this movie then!
