this movie was not about Catholicism. it was about faith in general and pentecostal Protestantism specifically. I've seen higher ground 4-5 times and absolutely love it. I think it does an incredibly sensitive job of following a woman's journey through faith and how difficult it is not only to be a believer, but also a skeptic. I have recommended this movie a hundred times over.

her best friend was Polish (how could she not be influenced by Catholicism culturaly?) The mailman was Irish, from Dublin, probably Catholic. These were the two most influential people in her life. At the end she walks into the Church and see\’s the latin \”Praise God\”. The director is Ukrainian. I think this movie is very Catholic.

I know, I know, the Catholic church is the one true church and therefore, whenever a movie is about Faith then it must be about the Catholic Church. Anyone who ever darkened the door of a Catholic church knows that this movie doesn\’t reflect Catholicism. Do your homework next time.

It\’s pretty obvious the writer of this review doesn\’t have clue 1 about Catholicism. The religion described is clearly a form of Pentecostalism.

This seems like a fairly thoughtful review, but if the writer is that confused about the basic subject matter of the film, I find it difficult to take his opinions seriously.

I thought this looked like it could be bad, but I was hopeful nonetheless. Might still check it out on video just to see for myself.

Just one question, though: Is this movie really an attack on Catholicism? Because from the trailers and the description here it sounds a lot more like a Protestant fundamentalist sect than the Roman Catholic Church. Speaking in tongues has never been encouraged by Catholics as far as I know, and there were lots of Evangelical Christian hippies in the \’70s. There have been so many movies and directors who deal with Catholicism, I thought this one was going to be unique by giving a balanced look at a Protestant group.
