First, it is just a very unambitious, generic biopic. The direction is utterly pedestrian and forgettable, with the repeated cuts to random, anonymous war scenes feeling like a desperate attempt to raise the stakes in post-production.

Second, despite being partly about the protagonist\’s sexuality, this film is more chaste than Christopher Nolan\’s filmography. There is no sexual tension at any point in the film and as a result we never get a feel for Turing as an adult.

Finally, it cops out on the ending, attempting to end on an uplifting note before having the closing text say \’Oh by the way, he offed himself\’. It\’s like if Grave of the Fireflies ended with the kids playing on the riverbank and then had a footnote saying \’Yeah, everything went to shit later\’.
