That other movie he did with Vince Vaughn was his directorial debut. Jon Favreau directed Made a couple years before Elf came along.

\’iron man 2 \’ hurt because of how much i enjoyed \’iron man\’ and all of favreau\’s previous work. i hope i like this more than the reviewer.

Just for a correcton. Six writers were credited, but they are two writing teams included in that six. Kurtzman & Orci and Otsby &Fergus;. Then you have the two individual writers Lindelof and Oedekerk.

Still a lot of pens, but two writing teams is different than four individual writers taking a stab at a script with their four different perspectives.

Gutted this got a C+. I was expecting this to be the surprise hit of the summer, obviously not. The very fact it has six scriptwriters smells like bad news.

@GoodRobot – um, you are reading way too much into this. Dude, this movie was sold and pitched literally on an illustration. To say it\’s even based \”comic book series\” is generous at this point.

The pitch was literally \”Cowboys! Aliens! In the same movie!\” which for years it was bounced around 100 different writers and producers.

It\’s not that surprising it turned out to be so terrible. Sometimes stupid Hollywood cash grab ideas work commercial (Alice in Wonderland) but usually they are all terrible movies. Smurfs is gonna crush this, wouldn\’t be surprised if it\’s 3rd behind Captain America.

Good point about the aliens. How good would it have been if the town were menaced by a group of nameless, faceless Indians? Probably not very.

I haven\’ seen the film so it\’s hard to fully judge, but one reason that the writers might not have given any real sort of identity to the aliens is to actually play on the western aspect of \’outlaw\’ or enemy in the eyes of a cowboy verses the organization of politics (the government/control), that perhaps traditionally comes off in pop culture as fighting \’a face with no name\’…It allows for the humans to show how human they are…The complexity of ourselves and our relationships and how that changes when lives are on the line and we are forced to work together to save ourselves from \’something else\’.

Perhaps the inconsistency or loose ends are meant to be there for set up of another film or continuation in the comic book series?
