Having read the novel and then seen the film today I can honestly say the film was a let down. It\'s not a bad film and I did enjoy it but it didn\'t portray the tensions, emotions and background that made this a best selling novel. There were bits of the story missed out and I felt it was all a bit rushed to cram it in to the two hours. It could have been so much more

Having read the source novel, I can tell you that the identity of the killer is a surprise twist that makes sense of the entire narrative. It\'s a revelation that ties the whole story together. And having read Price\'s early draft, I can also tell you that it was (at least at one point) the same as in the novel. I can see why they\'d ultimately trim it, in that it requires yet another sub-plot in a story that is (quite novelistically, and uncinematically, as you point out) already full of them - but THAT one? The story\'s a whodunit. Why would you trim out THAT one? Very confusing.
