It's a puppet show. Hence the name. People would be less surprised by the all the color if they knew what Bunraku was before wondering where the title of the movie they just watched came from. It's a play, and there's your backgrounds explained. The whole thing is a lot of style with minimal substance. Genre entertainment, yes, but entertaining. Worth a watch just to see if you like it. Maybe a second viewing to decide whether you do like it or not, I was undecided after my first time.

Gackt may be new to ACTING, but he's pushing 40 and has been a J-pop celebrity for over 15 years. Killer #2, though... he does really make the movie much more entertaining, I'm with you on that.

In traditional Bunraku storytelling, the narrator is not usually there to narrate. He delivers the puppets' lines and comments on the happenings, but never strictly narrates.

Doesn\'t want to be Sin City, wants to be plain, no character development but real presence through artificial feelings and therefore closer to reality (not society or daily life) than normal movies and as self reflexive and funny as fight club.
