I thought 'Brothers' was amazing all around, great storytelling in particular – the director went from one point to the next without messing around

Thanks for the review. I love Jim Sheridan's work so I can't wait. Totally agree with this other review i read: “It’s a terrific movie. Jim Sheridan really never makes a bad one. And he has a wonderful way with children.”

Yeah, extra props to Sheridan for jettisoning some really, on-the-nose moments in the script, that actually worked well in the original (which is why they were there), but here their excisions felt like smart choices.

I was very impressed by the performances as well. Ditto on Bailee Madison's knockout turn.
I do credit Sheriden with eliciting great work from these actors (BTW: he came up with the best elements of the dinner scenes – one key moment in particular was not in the script).
Poor Thomas Newman – his score was terribly watered down by what I imagine was a nightmare scenario where the director continues to gut the score. It's really too bad because I was so excited to hear what Newman would do with such fertile subject matter (In the Bedroom meets Jarhead).

I didn't think the film itself was that amazing, tonally off in spots, terrible score in spots, but the performances ARE good.

Also? The little girl in the film? The one pictured above in Natalie Portman's arms? She's amazing.

David Letterman raved about it when he interviewed Natalie Portman last week, but I thought he had to be exaggerating. Apparently not.
