This reviewer is one of the few who got this right. I thought it was badly written, saccharine, and weirdly racist, despite the writer/director being half Maori on his father\’s side. Nobody dares say anything negative about any depiction of modern Maori life, least of all white New Zealanders. Nobody seems to notice that there\’s not one adult in the entire community who acts like and adult. If the idea was to try to represent a child\’s view of reality, it fails on this count as well.

Any idea when/if the film will be released on DVD in North America? This is filmed near where my Dad grew up and I would love to be able to share it with people.

I dunno if this will make a good U.S release, its got a lot of NZ slang and humour. But it was immensly popular in NZ, it made more money than movies like Alice in Wonderland!
