When Hollywood pulls these remake stunts, they fail almost always because someone decides to rip away some crucial piece(s) that made the original compelling/etc. It becomes homogenized for the sake of US audiences, when in fact US audiences are finally starting to become sickened by such practices.

US remakes of European hits is something that really needs to end, has it ever worked? What\’s strange is even when the remake\’s practically verbatim it doesn\’t work, possibly something to do with a pretension for subtitles and foreign prestige? I wonder if we\’re over rewarding some films cause their foreignness makes them seem more weighty and worthy than they are?

A shame this fell victim to what is essentially Academy Award bait. The original film is fantastic, regardless of what language the story is told in.
