As hysterical as Celine might have seemed at times (I never thought she seemed like that, though a lot of people have said otherwise), Jesse didn't exactly respond to her complaints in the most comforting manner. I thought they both came off as understandable, if not sympathetic, and I couldn't really pass judgment on them. It helped that Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy have such great chemistry.

Linklater, Hawke and Delpy have all said they're open to revisiting the characters again in 9 years. There has certainly been no suggestion from them that this film is the last one.
