One would actually have to "see" the movie to provide a relevant critique and also have an unbiased opinion. Like her or hate her who cares. The movie just like the book was outstanding and that is why they are both ultra successful ventures. To her credit Angelina Jolie-Pitt did a solid job. There were parts that got left out but that is to expected because scripts cannot generally follow books exactly. That was the scriptwriters decisions. Just the way it is people. I give credit where credit is due. Mrs. Jolie-Pitt did a really good job with a challenging genre that not many women pursue. Good on her...go women! We are fierce.

I think this review was written better than the movie itself. I couldn\'t have said it better myself... They really should have kept the flashbacks going for the rest of the movie, would have helped to see some hope and light in the middle of over an hour of sadness and torture. I could hardly sit through the ending information about the real guy... was too drained and emotionally spent from watching the same guy get beat up for several hours.

I really enjoyed this movie. I cried in the begining, in the middle, and in the end. Lots of sniffles all around the theatre in the end and also clapping.

The third act of the book is cut out, which featured his battle with PSD, meeting Billy Graham, and then trying to seek out the bird. Surely twenty minutes could have been spared for this. Also was dissapointed to not see any of the acts of compassion by certain Japanese were in the book. Leaving this in probably would have helped the narrative. The dogfight and their time in the raft was great though.

I was so intrigued by the story behind this true telling. But just reading your review makes me yawn at the idea of investing the two hours to refute your claims. Anyone else seen this?
