I am not sure if the person who wrote with such enthusiasm about this film has actually seen "Alps" ("Alpis" in the original). Let me start by saying that the photographs in your article look so much better than any scene in this movie - that I found just ... awful. It is ugly in it's framing, lighting and just about everything. Is it a weird fairytale or some sort of sci-fi dream or just a freaky idea but an author - I couldn't figure it out. I was just repelled by the careless shots, the ugly colors, the dumb plot and the unwatchable actors. There is a trend in artsy European Indie-movies (well, aren't all "Indie", since we don't have studio-productions here?!) to make films that look like they were shot in two days at most, and that nobody gave a damn about color-correction, focus or stable camera-handling. Did I mention that the story isn't weird enough to be cool but too weird to be watchable. I am Austrian, and I love small-kind movies. This one I just hated. NO comparison with Dogtooth! That was a bad-ass weirdo kind of idea. But "Alps" ... brr, I wish I could get it out of my head. It was an insult. Maybe Americans like it because it was so "different". No kidding. But you guys have so many great movies, don't bother trying to praise some piece of unnecessary time-wasting like this one. (Compared to this, our very own Austrian "Michael" was well-done, but that was useless, too. Just jumping on a train with a lot of long shots and the intention of playing with a horrible trend.) Did I mention that "Alps" is completely implausible and dumb? Okay, sorry, I shut up now. If you don't have a lot of money, really spend it on something entertaining.

Saw this last night in NYC (Cinema Village) and I totally agree with this review. Maybe because city folk are more jaded - and spoiled by access to indie films - but I was among few in the audience that giggled at the dark humor. The dialogue and reveals were so crisp - from tight spaces or frames; layered b.g. movements - that my senses were being played with.
