It's interesting that Shyamalan likes to have children as central characters, but refuses to have these children ever act like children. They are stiff, joyless, exposition-spewing, plot-forwarding tools… well, I guess they're just like his adult characters. It's hard to believe Shyamalan has children of his own. You'd expect to see some more authentic childlike humanity up on the screen.

Well, it's earned $199 million worldwide so far. This weekend, the movie opens in China, Vietnam, and Portugal, so who knows how much more it will earn? It's not the turkey/flop/bomb people desire it to be.

Not entirely sure if only keener eyes detect the visual flaws that plague After Earth, but from the outset there are innumerable examples of poor compositing, cheap-looking CG sets and bad lighting applied in post. Maybe the reviewer didn't notice, but be warned, this film looks five-years older than it is.
