I hate the artistic license they took with this movie. The real story would have been a better movie in that both of these young men, Andre Bonds 20 and Bryan Cook 18, were from broken families and they committed terrible acts. They killed one woman outright during the carjacking then raped and shot her friend and left her for dead. To make it seem that one of these men was worth saving is disingenuous to the real events that took place.

While I agree with most of your points about the movie, this bit bugged me..."Dre remains attached to family but keeps them at arms length, and yet, on the verge of graduating high school, he’s going to try to make a connection with this slow-thinking caveboy?".

Kevin was his family.

I don't usually leave reviews but after seeing all the crappy reviews and people not in favor of the movie, I had to speak my peace.

Well first off. This is the best movie EVER!!!

We always say that the music we listen too and the movies we see are so superficial and fabricated. We finally got a movie that's based on a TRUE story and we can't appreciate it because we have been brain washed to expect and approve the cliche movies.

Only part of the review I can partly agree with is the non-conventional way the story was told. The story switched from back and forth to the beginning to the ending and vice versa. And IMO that made a GREAT movie. It made me think what is going on. Instead of where a typical movie spoon feed you and leave little thinking about what's going to happen next. This movie jumps around and challenges you to think a little.

Storyline: people say that it is unrealistic. Again this is a based on a true story. Now is it possible that some things may be exaggarated, Yes but which movie does not emphasize certain parts? I think some of the emphasis such as the boy mother being mean to him and the mother boyfriend being an abuser were cliche it but it was put in there to help drive home the point for non-thinkers.

Also, I think the movie also showed that White people do not have it easy in life. The same tragedy that Black people fall victim too they do to. Broken home, being cheated on, etc. Also showed that Black people both want to gang bang and make something of their life.

Also show how people get caught in some screwed up circumstances. The truth be told a lot of people who committed crimes are your bosses, co-workers and pastors. They never got caught and changed from their ways. Unfortunately not everyone is this lucky. Some end up in jail.

And the ending of the story is beautiful. Crime never pays, you will get caught. Lastly, the split second decisions you make now can impact the rest of your life.

Again, THE BEST MOVIE EVER hands down!!!!!!

I disagree with your review, the movie is filmed in an artistic way allowing the viewer to experience a different type of film instead of the standard way films are pieced together, also the movie shows meaning behind it. Bad review.
