I have two thoughts on this film. First, I had no expectations going in and simply allowed myself to be entertained. I don't look for hidden agendas or conspiracies and I found a pretty sweet action film with relatively realistic firefights and the ugliness of war, the atrocities of war. That being said, my second thought on the film and it's accuracy is it is no different than other "historical" offerings, i.e Braveheart, 300, The Alamo. All of these films offer up very little fact to tell a story, and one that is timeless- the biggest bully around picking on the weak and taking what isn't theirs. Both parties in this story were wrong and both sides committed war crimes but the bottom line and the essence of this story is Russia had no business invading a sovereign state. Period, and the world was either oblivious to it or ignored it and I personally feel that's the biggest tragedy of all and society does it over and over again. Georgia has the right to exist and to protect it's borders and if this film makes us aware, then it has served it's purpose and the world should never turn a blind eye to that fact again.

I wonder how many US taxpayer dollars sent to Georgia were misdirected into funding this film.

This unabashed Georgian propaganda piece seems to follow an old WWII axiom: \”People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.\”

One only needs to read the EU commissioned report on the subject to discover how big a lie this film actually is.

Americans deserve better.

This movie can\’t portray what went on in that conflict because it is as far from UN and European Union report as this film director could have done…. Like PJ mentioned \”Harlin was conquered by Georgian hospitality, wined and dined by the Georgian government, who provided him with their army at his disposal\”. My cousin was a victim of the first Georgia Ossetian conflict, where she was raped by Georgian soldiers… people that were portrayed as russian militia, they looked more like those Georgian soldiers that destroyed my cousin\’s life.

5 Days of War should have gotten a nationwide release and has already gone straight to DVD here in the UK. I would have liked to see how it would have done commercially if released nationwide. It\’s got a stellar cast with Heather Graham and Antje Traue also in it.

As a journalist that covered this war, I have to call you on your erroneous assumption that \”this conflict was barely acknowledged by the press.\” Everybody covered this war and most from Tbilisi, where government officials were readily taking interviews. John McCain said \”we are all Georgians,\” and his wife came to tour refugee shelters.
As for the few journalists that were embedded, what makes you think this was Operation Desert Storm? Fighting took place 30-40 miles from the capital. Journalists were embedded at the Marriott.

An auteur\’s interpretation? Harlin was conquered by Georgian hospitality, wined and dined by the Georgian government, who provided him with their army at his disposal.

This may be Harlin\’s tribute to the Georgian people, but it\’s still a shlock action movie loosely based on the fact that there was a war in Georgia in 2008. I think the Georgian people deserve more than that.

We\’ve been waiting quite a while for this film to come to the US,besides limited release we are still waiting to see if it will be released here in las vegas nevada.The story never really came clear here because of the olympics and it\’s coverage,but it should have -now there is this film telling a story,true and somewhat honest.For the cast ,well terrific,rupert friend( talented beyond) hopefully will be acknowledged as well as the others.Let\’s hope it will be seen and appreciated that the directors have a true piece of history and wont it be a pleasure to see it rather than be insulted by the filth and poor material out there being thrown at us by the film industry(more than not). good luck cheers

Had no problem with Andy Garcia but every time Dean Cain appeared some of the sense of urgency seemed to dissipate. I wish they had come up with a better script since they didn\’t need all the cliches.
