I think there’s a certain kineticism and electricity to the best action filmmaking, something that Stallone captured in the recent “Rambo.” Most action films are made by people who can never understand that rhythm- a good action sequence is like beautiful poetry and great sex. With the names involved here, the possibility of “The Expendables” achieving that balance is high. There is such a thing as a respectable but thematically brain-dead action picture, and I don’t see how this wouldn’t be one.

I think it’s cool/kinda weird how Sly follows sites like Stallone Zone and AICN, and actually corresponds with them. As far as 50 Cent goes, I’d rather they use LL Cool J. Much better actor, if that can be said, and still a physique that fits the club they got going on here. Yes, this will more than likely be bad, but even though Rambo IV came close to making my worst of the year list, the end battle was good gory fun.

People need to realize that while we/I may sound angry at times, personally, when i'm writing about fluff like this, I'm generally writing to amuse myself and all that that entails.

Oh, I totally agree. At least he’s doing this though, and not his long fabled Biggie/Tupac murder movie. The only thing that could really ruin the fun factor of this would be if he tried to weasle in some message about global relation like he did in Rambo IV. Actually, I’m almost positive he will.

Yeah, it could be. I’ll give it a shot, but just think about what Stallone’s directed these days. Just cause it could be fun and has a lot of names and a budget doesn’t mean it couldn’t be something worthy of going straight to DVD (but wont).

I’ll be honest, I think you may be taking this project a tad too seriously. I honestly can’t see how anyone involved with this couldn’t realize how brainless it is. I’ll be there the day it opens, and my taste in film is more in line with yours. But this is going to be enormously entertaining and gut bustingly (not a word) funny.

I don’t mean it’s definitely going to be bad, but it’s not as easy to argue that it’s going to be great now either. The Eric Roberts thing didn’t bother me cause it made sense. If he’d replaced Whitaker with Fred Williamson I might feel better about it…but 50 Cent? Still looking forward to it, but if I read Statham was replaced by Kid Rock, I might be off this bandwagon.

That's the type of shit the blogs i loathe, adore.

But, i agree there's always exceptions. I'm not necesarily against this film, i just remain skeptical til proven otherwise.
