Good review, though I think you missed the point in lamenting the bit in the Nancy Grace deconstruction scene where "the women in the room all show how they've all had their maternal instincts stirred up." Sorkin may get a lot wrong about women, but I don't think he was making such an elementary error here. As I read the scene, what the female journalists were expressing with their awkward canon of "me's" was not that their "maternal instincts" had, in fact, been stirred by the pandering Nancy Grace programming, but the horror of their dawning realization that, as women, they were being pandered to on that basis - that is, not because they HAVE "maternal instincts," but because they were PRESUMED to have them. A critical distinction.

I like Maggie. I liked the NSA rep referencing TV and movies, it was unexpected and it made him seem even nerdier. There was a bit of over-reaction/over-acting when Sloan threw Neil against the wall, but I think you're being too hard on the show over all.

By my count, this show has already used four actors that have spent time on "Parks and Rec", a number which moves up to five if you include "The Office." That seems sort of strange...maybe Sorkin is a fan.

Thoughtful review. Sorkin was a musical theater major in college and is a self-described musical nut, hence the abundance of references. Both Studio 60 and especially The West Wing were sprinkled with this kinda stuff quite a bit.

mckipsy mccupsy or whatever fake name she has was truly awful in this episode. i thought i hated jeff daniels smugness but her high ground, saintly, self important take on a nationally covered story (regardless of merit) gave me a headache
