Sorkin may get a lot wrong about women, but I don't think he was making such an elementary error here. As I read the scene, what the female journalists were expressing with their awkward canon of "me's" was not that their "maternal instincts" had, in fact, been stirred by the pandering Nancy Grace programming, but the horror of their dawning realization that, as women, they were being pandered to on that basis – that is, not because they HAVE "maternal instincts," but because they were PRESUMED to have them. A critical distinction.

There was a bit of over-reaction/over-acting when Sloan threw Neil against the wall, but I think you're being too hard on the show over all.
