A strong episode to be sure. One of the main reasons: they didn't stray to the other 5 story lines going on in the realm. Sure that's going to make the final episode potentially disastrous, or it could make it great.

Scenario 1: too many storylines to sew up and it becomes a mess.

Scenario 2: very little time to fuck around, all storylines are told and concluded (as much as they can be for the next season) in an economic fashion.

Economy is what this show needs though. Even though it was "1 storyline" it did bounce from the War, to the maidens and Cersei Lannister and even by the 2nd time they cut to her story, it was redundant, her relaying the same sentiment over and over again. That's the one frustrating thing about this show as that kind of thing occurs often.

But other wise strong EP.

That was Ser Loras at the end. Tywin recruited the Tyrells and their bannermen after Renly's death, which was what really turned the tide. As for Tyrion's would-be assassin, that was one of Joffrey's kingsguard; they're the ones who have those helmets with the three ridges. I agree that the way they did all of this in the show was a bit rushed for people who didn't read the book. (Things are so much easier when you have a narrator identifying everybody by name.)
