Rape of Thrones sucks. 3 rape deviations from the books. Rape isn\'t a creative plot device or character development; it\'s a sign of weak writing and misogyny. This season was going so well. Now we\'re back to the showrunners base interests. F&#k\'s sake, what exactly did the gradeschool girls do to them to extract all this revenge on these women?

I think the Mary Sue website described the situation best:

"...rape is not necessary to Sansa’s character development (she’s already overcome abusive violence at the hands of men); it is not necessary to establish Ramsay as a bad guy (we already know he is); it is not necessary to prove “how bad things were for women” (Game of Thrones exists in a fictional universe, and we already know it’s exceptionally patriarchal). Rape here, like in all instances, is not a necessary story-driving device.

Let’s talk about what this means for Sansa, now. Many assume Sansa’s current plot is leading her to become “The Queen in the North.” Will she rise to power in that way? That seems like a given at this point, but I don’t care. Why? Because Game of Thrones just took her journey, and put it into the hands of Theon."

The choice to focus on Theon was the cherry on top of this shit sundae.

John, it is people like you that make me wish I lived on a different planet. Just like death and torture, rape is a plot device. They aren\'t raping characters out of the blue for shock value. The point of the Sansa rape scene was to get the audience to hate Ramsey even more. They obviously want to set him up for a satisfying death. So the writers are misogynists because they include rape scenes? By that logic, they are guilty of misandry too (need I remind you of Theon\'s genitals being mutilated). While we are at it, let us call all writers that create racist characters racists. That definitely makes the most sense [sarcasm].

Where exactly do you see "Sansa\'s growing power"? She is anything but powerful. She is Littlefinger\'s pawn who handed her off to Bolton and is now using her as a pawn with Cersi. She has no power at all. Married to Ramsey basically makes her his slave, it doesn\'t elevate her. She has no power of her own, especially where she is at the moment. Sansa is the ultimate victim. She has never been in charge of her own fate. Contrast her plot line with Arya\'s. Arya is the one who is gaining power and has been in charge of her own fate since the day her father died.

i don\'t mind that they deviate from the books b/c, frankly, i only read half of the first one it was quite awful prose. however, i agree with John about the rape cliché. then again, this season has been boring and marred with weak writing as well as more road tripping. how many characters are taking road trips this season? the tall blonde knight and squire, the one-handed handsome bloke, dwarf cock and blue balls, and now stannis and his army.
