It’s heavy-handed melodrama. The same year [2000] at Cannes also had ‘Yi Yi’ and ‘In The Mood for Love’, both of which critics put at the top films of the decade. They surely deserve a mention. Chunhyang, by Kwon-taek Im, was also a better film.

I will say I agree with your #1. That’s still a strong film.
