Agree with some of these choices, though I\’d put \’American Splendor\’ in the top 10 and would move \’Beasts of the Southern Wild.\’ Would push \’Primer\’ way back.

Couldn\’t read past your knocking of "Precious". That is an incredible film that packs a whallup in every way. Is it the best from Sundance? Maybe not but it sure as hell should be near the top of the list.

Glad to see some love for "Chameleon Street," the Grand Prize Winner at the first Sundance Fest I attended. I\’ve often wondered why Wendell B. Harris didn\’t go on to make many more films, or at least score more acting gigs.

HOOSIERS was not screened in competition as you state. It was a Premiere, no more eligible to win the award than MOONSTRUCK or HANNAH AND HER SISTERS were in their years at Sundance.

So the most memorable Sundance movie of all time didn\’t come out of the Sundance Institute, didn\’t reflect the Sundance multi-cultural health food ethic, lacks the usual characteristics of American indie film and is about the only winner whose directors went on to anything consequential.

In other words, Sundance might be a great place, if it wasn\’t burdened by everything Sundance insists on.
