I think that every time they brought in some "hip" singer(s) to sing the theme song, it yielded disastrous results. Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies and Another Way to Die are not just some of the worst songs of the series, they\’re also a pain to listen to.

Firstly, to judge \’Writing\’s on the Wall\’ before you\’ve seen \’Spectre\’ is a little mean; yes, Bond songs have a life beyond the films they were written for, but this admittedly slight confection might still redeem itself significantly when we understand its context. After what\’s purported to be the biggest Bond opening scene ever, maybe a little haiku will feel apt? We\’ll see. However, the bigger sin is to put \’Skyfall\’ above \’You Only Live Twice\’ and \’From Russia with Love\’. EHHHHH??? Firstly, they are far better songs, but secondly they DEFINED the Bond song sound, which \’Skyfall\’ merely imitates. Shame on you, Playlist. Shame on you.

wow the writers of the playlist are really just plain petty i have come to realize, The living daylights is a great bond song but you know what is really funny is that you can\’t even justify why it is so low on your list its not a terrible song just not memorable well well i remember that song very very well for its infectious chorus.

A good list, thanks for putting it together. I could make minor quibbles, but the major one is having Chris Cornell\’s You Know My Name at number 19. Ridiculous. Should be top five at least – and it is my personal number one. Unbelievable that you have nonsense like Sheryl Crow\’s song above it.

The You Only Live Twice song recorded by Julie Rogers was not the same one later recorded by Nancy Sinatra. Same writers, Barry-Bricusse, but quite different. Also, please note, it\’s Matt Monro, not Munro. Can\’t believe writers are still getting this wrong!!

Great article that transcends the usual linkbaiting \’Top 10\’ lists. Even though I don\’t agree with much of the list, the passion for the franchise in this piece is undeniable. We all have our guilty favorites amongst the universally-admired classic, and I spent an entertaining 20 minutes revisiting some oldies-but-goodies in the company of some fine jocular prose.

Jimbo – just to take you up on your point about Skyfall. The greatest sin is Adele’s grotesque pronunciation. At around 3:25 – London’s own Little Sparrow warbles, “I know I’ll never be-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….without his segurideeeee”. For that alone, Adele needs to take her karaoke arse on a walk of shame to the back of the line.
And just to meander, I think The Playlisters are a little harsh on the razor shy Chris Cornell. Not sure why “You Know My Name” has been flushed so quickly to the septic tank whilst there are numerous turds bobbing and shit marks smearing about the toilet bowl.

Basically, anything that has "Die" in the title that\’s not sung by Paul McCartney. Writing\’s on the Wall is not that bad. The orchestra is awesome, but it\’s the lyrics that seem to hurt the song.

GoldenEye, The Living Daylights and You Know My Name are great songs. And they work really well with their respective films. Even Moonraker does not deserve to be so low. Also, Licence to Kill is just awful. And whether you like Sam Smith\’s song or not, it\’s not nearly as bad as Quantum of Solace or Die another Day!!

Saying that the Dalton movies never truly feel like 007 outings is like saying the dark knight does not feel like a Batman outing because it\’s different from the Adam West show. Dalton, like Nolan, went back to the source material to produce something more faithful to the books. The Roger Moore films is the furthest from the books. Dalton is the most underrated Bond because the world was not ready for that in the 80s. He was doing what Craig is doing now.
