Yes, – film is a collaborative effort. See all those names at the beginning and end of the movie. Without them, there is no movie. Don’t tell aspiring composers this propagandistic drivel. Encourage them – wasn’t that the point of having him there? “Auteurs” with far more capital than QT have trusted composers time and again and with sublime results. Hitchcock, Truffaut, and Scorcese seemed to like Herrmann’s work just fine… The greatest and scariest thing in the world for a director to do is hand over their work to someone who is also a dramatist – but a dramatist through music. Basically he was saying – “hey, you guys are gonna be extinct cuz cool fuckers like me use shit that already exists, cuz my ego is as big as my chin and I can’t possibly like what you’re gonna write” – – – gimme a freakin break. The humble pie he is going to have to eat some day is roughly the size of Nevada and it will taste like shit.

Arrogant? No

Abrasive, maybe even crass? Probably.

It's not like he said he makes his own music. It's just not his thing, maybe one day when he feels a film of his needs a composer. He will try it out.

I just think people are so used to others going up there and being so polite and hollow. That when someone brings it down a few notches that some just can't handle it.

It's just the way he is, the guy is frank and has a mouth like a trucker.

1. Tarantino’s a showboat, so of course he’s going to say something full of braggadocio with a crowd hanging on his every word, so you have to cut him a little slack, but to the person defending him (“O”), come you don’t think it’s just a tiny bit arrogant?

I don't see a problem with what he said. Unless he somehow directed this to a specific composer?

I like his film soundtracks. Especially since he's opened me up to some artists I've never heard of. Where is it in the books that he has to use a composer to create a specific soundtrack to his films?

Kill Bill has one of my favorite organized soundtracks. Next to The Crow soundtrack. I like compositions too, but his films work really well for the pre-made music he coordinates for them.

If people took offense to what he said, they should grow thicker skin. So somone doesn't use your method? Big fucking deal.

What a shortsighted idiot, not unlike some other entitled and narcissistic directors I've run into over the years.

Guys like Tarantino have apparently never fully understood what karma really means when they freely dispose of the creativity of other artists.

When consumers (not just studios) start disposing of his work by remixing and recutting his films to their liking, then he'll get a taste of his own medicine.
