why does it have to be Star Wars? Just do an original space opera on HBO. that would kick ass.

I always thought that Star Wars (and most of all Tatooine) would be a perfect setting for a gritty/western show or movie. Farmers, cattle, saloon/cantina and most of all : plenty of dust. In any case Lucas himself clearly had some John Ford in mind when he filmed the results of the Tuskan attack in A new hope.
