YES! There needs to be a remake! I loved Starship Troopers 1997 movie, but its a complete disgrace to Heinlens work and should never have even been called Starship Troopers. It did not follow the writings and thoughts of Robert Heinlen and what being a cap trooper is all about!! I hope Moritz can get passed all the nonsensical banter from the civvis! Because they obviously, as described in the book, don't give a damn as they havent even read the book! The most influential scifi book deserves a remake – and that is an absolute understatement!

I am of the opinion that a fresh movie made from Heinlein's book could be a great film how ever if it is just a remake of Paul Verhoeven's movie (which was great in it's own right) would be a waste of time and forever end any chance of a meaning full film to be made based off of the works of Robert Heinlein. That being said there are many great works from the man that are worthy of the silver screen such as Friday and A Stranger in a Strange Land why not give one of them a shot?

Yes, why? But I don't say that because I love the original. I thought it was lame when it was released, and I haven't seen it since. I love Robocop and Total Recall, so it's a mystery why I thought it was trash ( though I have read that Verhoeven was never very fond of sci-fi, so maybe he was tired of making them at this point??)

I never understood why ST was a hit, and a remake of a bad movie..? Or will this be completely different going back to the source material?

This is great news… as fun as the old movie may have been, it didn't follow the book AT ALL… hell, it didn't even get the main character's name right (at the HS exams wall in the movie, we see Rico's name as Johnathan, when in the book his name was Jaunito), nevermind taking a barely mentioned character, changing his gender, and made him a love-interest for Rico (I'm talking about Dizzy Florez… in the book Dizzy was a dude… who got dead, and that was it). As a long time fan of the book, I can say that ANY adaptation of the book that holds no connection to PV's shitacular movie (that while fun, abandoned everything that made the book worth while, and kept nothing but a war with bugs, which wasn't even the focus of the book in the first place) is more than welcome!

Shia LaBeouf, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford or James Lafferty as Johnny Rico
