Tops for me though would be Alejandro Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain" (1973).

What a uniquely insane movie. I love recommending it to people who approach it with no preconceptions and seeing how they react.

Also, a lot of critics are citing Strange Days, Dark City, The 13th Floor, etc. as references for Inception although I'm not big fans of any of those. Oh, and fanboys might crucify you for not having Donnie Darko, but not me 🙂
