Just before Christmas, Pixar story artist Floyd Numan hit Twitter and revealed a pretty crucial detail regarding the new “Toy Story” short that will play in front of “Cars 2” saying, “Saw the Pixar Hawaii short. Cute,” later adding, “Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however.” Well, thanks to publishers Random House, the cat has been let out of the bag.
In the Amazon.com listing of the new book “Play-cation!” (is this the title of the short as well?) it’s revealed that its based on the forthcoming “Toy Story” short which begs the question: they’re making novelizations of short cartoons now? Ugh. Anyway, here’s the summary: “Bonnie is off to Hawaii, and Barbie and Ken are excited to go along on their first tropical vacation! But when they’re accidentally left behind, it’s up to Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the toys to create a Hawaiian paradise right in Bonnie’s room.”
So, while Ken and Barbie won’t actually be basking in real sunlight, we’re sure the clever toys will find a way to replicate Hawaii in some clever ways that will include some toys from our childhood. The new short will be seen in front of “Cars 2” when it opens on June 24, 2011. [Pixar Blog via JoBlo]
