It's a bit late. but, I honestly think '09, was a year of good movies. Haven't seen many of the films listed here, but I'd definitely think Up In The Air was a notable film of the year. It's unconventional and honest.

So nice to see Still Walking make it on your list, and at such a high position … I managed to see it at the Rehoboth Film Festival, and you're dead right .,.. It's the best family dynamics movie I've seen since Yi Yi or You Can Count on Me, two of my all-time faves

Your list is great but I'm particularly glad you included Tetro. It was overlooked by so many, though it's so brillant. I loved Gallo and Ehrenreich; the photography brought an incredible beauty to the film; re on your comment that it was "uneven," I agreed when I first saw it but I changed my mind after seeing the film a second time.

This list just confirms to me, once again, the absolute misery I have in living in a small market. I really should invest in a Netflix account.

I've heard of all of the films, but have only been able to see three (Where the Wild Things Are, The Hurt Locker, Bronson). That being said, I have all of them in my top 10.

So glad Up, 500 Days of Summer and In the Loop aren't here (though District 9's placement is kind of disappointing).

I know certain people will disagree with me on this, but Medicine for Melancholy was probably the best 2009 release I saw.

Hated, hated, hated "Bronson." For me it was awful. That would rank among my worst films of the year. Didn't like "Summer Hours" either. Or "A Single Man."

That being said, I do really like a lot of the choices on this list, like "A Serious Man," "The Hurt Locker," "Two Lovers," "Sin Nombre," "Where the Wild Things Are," "Tokyo Sonata." I liked "Bright Star," too. Not finished with the year, but an exclusively 2009 would look something like this:

1. Tyson
2. Sita Sings the Blues
3. A Serious Man
4. The Hurt Locker
5. Julia
6. Tokyo Sonata (if that's considered 2009)
7. Fantastic Mr. Fox
8. Where the Wild Things Are
9. I Love You, Man
10. Goodbye Solo or Two Lovers

re: two lovers, I almost bumped it or my last 3 slots for The Messenger and at the last min i didn't (I'm not a fan of last minute adjustements to lists which i did when i was younger).

Yeah, MOON was a near-miss. For my 'weird ass sci-fi thing' slot, I had to give it up for Richard Kelly's 'The Box,' which I thought was more fun and enigmatic.

I'm so happy that there's lots of love for "Two Lovers." That movie is so good and so overlooked. Love it.

According to IMDB U.S. rules (which many film bloggers finally chided me into using because i would inevitably put films in my list from an EARLY year -- i.e. 2010 films within the year 2009) it came out in 2008.

USA 5 December 2008 (limited)

But yes, quality, quality movie. I had it in my honorable mention of '08.
