If so many soldiers weren't denouncing The Hurt Locker, I'd agree with you. Every soldier that I've spoken to who has spent time in Iraq couldn't believe how unrealistic the movie was. I agree the film is "kickass", but it takes more than that to win an Oscar. The movie masquerades as a truthful look at war in Iraq when it couldn't be further from the truth.

I think you're mistaken, The White Ribbon wouldn't be the Academy's first purely digital Best Cinematography winner since it was shot on 35mm Kodak film stock (5207 and 5219). It was however converted to black and white digitally in post.

Not hating on it. I think Haneke is generally great, however, I thought WR was too clinical, rigidly formalist, etc.

I like Prophet better. Think it's an overall stronger film.

This whole "Un Prophete should win an Oscar and should've won the Palm d'orr" ordeal is such garbage. Quit hating on The White Ribbon. A Prophet is very strong narratively but really doesn't have as much depth as you're making it out to have.
