@Tourist.tam all that stuff is covered in Best Scores of the decade. This is just soundtracks, i.e. songs not composed specifically for the film.

Honestly? Kill Bill? ... half of the soundtrack is not worth the time spend listening to it. But I guess everyone has his own taste. thanks for sharing anyway.

"The assassination of Jesse James" by Nick Cave (2007) would have been a real contender as "Amelie" (2001) by Yann Tiersen, "In the mood for love" (2000) Or "Requiem for a dream" (2000).

And that is for the soundtracks that are not only compilation of track of one genre like "Cadillac Recor" (Rythm and Blues), "The Pianist" (Piano Concerto - Chopin), "Taking Woodstock", "the boat that rocked" (Rock and Roll), "Fallout3 - the score" (50s american pop) or "the Wakness" (90s Hip hop). And as for a score for a Sophia Scorcese film ... "Virgin Suicide" if any really.

Are you kidding? No "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"? The list is dj wetdream material. Hedwig is easily the number one soundtrack of the decade.

Art Simon, funnily enough, I also used "The Only Living Boy in New York" in a short film more than a year before Garden State, though it was a few months after Tadpole apparently, even though I never saw Tadpole, still haven't. Was it good?

Kudos on a nice list. The Squid and Whale would top mine, for sure ("Street Hassle" = Perfect).

I remember being obsessed with the Kevin Shields remix of "I Want Candy" for a few months after that Marie Antoinette soundtrack was released. I'm not totally sure why, but I still love it.

Garden State wasn't the first movie to use "Only Living Boy in NY." Tadpole was.

Great choices! I can't believe someone other than myself likes CQ's music (and the film, itself) so much. Those Coppola kids really wound up with great musical instincts. Not going to lie though, I would have liked to see some love for the Man on Wire soundtrack, chock full of Nyman's best.

agree with a lot of this, but Me You and Everyone We Know had an amazing soundtrack, I'd put that in there as a pick. A+ to the honorable mention to Limits of Control.

(I see I'm not there is in the big 'honourable mention' list. I think there are a few tracks like Going to Acapulco and Pressing On that DO better the originals but I agree that most don't. you still have to admire the ambition.)

Zamfir is cheesy but his work with Morriconne is always great; Once Upon a Time With America should be required listening.

And, come on - INTO THE WILD should be in there somewhere!! Maybe you should have separated compilation soundtracks from original soundtracks?

I'M NOT THERE has hits and misses but it should be here too on principle.

I would have also included THE LIFE AQUATIC around 17 or 18, but great list! You should also do a list for "Movie Soundtracks That Are Better Than the Actual Movie." I'd also put THE LIFE AQUATIC on that list.
