Nothing. Punch Drunk Love was a movie about being an adult stricken with teen angst. There will be blood was about his new life as a father. The killing of Eli was the killing of his youth, his past.
His next films will be, hopefully, more open minded and appeal to a larger audience, thematically and morally.

The man is passionate about his work and doesn’t like to look back to his past! So what! That isn’t a crime. I think looking ahead is best, looking back at your past can be a distraction. Besides, he’s PTA and knows what he’s doing. He’s a great filmmaker and his passision shows through his work big time!! He’s great!
