It wants to carve out its own identity but it also wants to co-opt a bunch of the iconic stuff from one of the most iconic comedies of all time. Seems to me like you can have one or the other but not both. Playing with iconography can be fun and great IMO if you deliver a new twist on what people are expecting, that makes some fun comment on the original or recontextualizes people\’s ideas about it. Changing the Ecto-1 from one type of Cadillac to another, similar-but-a-little-uglier-looking Cadillac, for instance, seems like a superficial change at best, which inevitably invites unflattering comparison to the original.
