As far as \’actually scary\’ and PG-13, consider P. Jackson\’s \’The Frighteners\’ or to a different degree \’Gremlins.\’ It CAN be done, but agreed with the overall consensus here that the franchise should continue to be a comedy with scary(ish) elements, not a horror film with comedic elements.

Feig never said the original film should have been scarier, he\’s simply saying that\’s the direction he\’d like to go with this one. Personally, I\’m all for a great horror comedy, and I\’m glad they\’re not just trying to reproduce the first film.

Ooo, wasn\’t that sort of the downfall of Ghostbusters 2 – focusing too much on making it scarier? I remember that one scared the s–t out of me as a kid, but the original was a perfect blend of everything.
