This year is incredibly hard to judge for BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY. I mean, there's still "SHORT TERM 12", "FRANCES HA", "THE DALLAS BUYERS CLUB", "OUT OF THE FURNACE", and "MUD" to think about. This has to be one of my favorite years of film, ever.

Suggesting that MUD has a better chance than Before Midnight, Enough Said, Out of the Furnace, Fruitvale Station, The Book Thief, Prisoners and Labor Day… is pure lunacy. Tomatometer is far less significant than you think.

Great update, Oliver, and nice insight.

One correction. Unlike Avatar and Gravity, Life of Pi was eligible for Best ADAPTED Screenplay, and it was nominated last year.
