"but in a category that's as weak as we've ever seen" — how is this year weak? Last year was weaker and less worthy… Tilda Swinton, Charlize Theron, Elizabeth Olsen, and Kirsten Dunst ran circles around the actual nominees and yet they weren't nominated. This year, it seems like women who actually did a terrific job in a film are being recognized. I don't see that as being weak.

Very weak year for lead and even supporting female roles so far. hopimng f or more in the this latter part of the year. Last time I remember there being so few contenders for Best Female was 2006 78th Academy Awards when Reese won.

So far, my Best Picture predictions include: Lincoln (mortal lock), The Hobbit (blockbuster slot), Hyde Park on Hudson (perfect for the Oscar demo), Les MisÃ©rables (lock), Anna Karenina (I can't imagine this won't get nominated, Oscar loves a costume period piece), The Master (still skeptical, but I'm pretty sure it'll grab the 8th or 9th slot). And that's it for now, we'll have to wait and see how the critics circles handle Django Unchained before I can make a prediction on that one.
