I think 12 Years A Slave deserves to win nearly everything its nominated for, so Best Film AND Best Director, for me to split them up doesn't make sense however much of an achievement Gravity is. Chiwetel surely has to win, he was phenomenal as was Nyong'o. For all the talk of Gravity being a game changer, I think 12 Years is a game changer, an extraordinary situation where a masterful and intense director took on a massive subject matter with American slavery and absolutely 100% succeeded in making an unforgettable experience that is both art house and mainstream, the two meeting together in something that should win every Best Picture.

I liked Gravity, I thought it was really impressive, incredible to watch BUT I don't know, to me there is hardly any emotional power to it even though it tries. It felt like a really exciting new rollercoaster ride that was immensely enjoyable at the time, but soon afterwards you just forget about it. 12 Years is a devastating masterpiece which completely and utterly overwhelmed me with its film making, acting, etc. It almost made me have an emotional breakdown, it will stay with me for the rest of my life but Gravity will not.
