Seeiously though I really want an outside the box, not-completely predictable movie to win best pic for once, and Silver Linings was awesome. At the least Jenifer Lawerence needs to win best actress or I'm planning a Pat Sulivan style freak complete with a TiVo remote control through the window

I love it that the race isn't all sewn up already and there's going to be some suspense come February. Also, I still maintain that The Dark Knight was deserving of a Best Picture nomination in 2008 (albeit it was a weak year). But I don't feel that Dark Knight Rises deserves a pity nomination. It was good, but too bloated and not as consistent as its predecessor.

PTA seriously better get a directing nomination. Master isn't his best movie but he is still one of the best two or three directors in this country right now and I feel like he deserves the recognition. So no mention of Ginger & Rosa? You guys were backing that one for a while. As far as outside chances go I'd prefer to see that one go the distance over Beasts or Moonrise. I'd settle for a Silver Linings win though.

As for the "Les Miz" screenplay which was available online for a few days, they've gone back to the book and added characters and material that more clearly fleshes out the story--not just transposing the stage version to screen. I was impressed.

No "The Dark Knight Rises"? Academy letting James Holmes sweep Nolan under the carpet? No making up for why they expanded the number of nominees?
The Academy lately has been going for feel-good, accessible films so we have TKS beating out another excellent procedural in TSN, and we have light and fluffy The Artist steamrolling the competition. Of the above, it seems SLP would be the most crowd-pleasing, but based on the fervor of initial reactions, it's Les Miz.
