Sad that Calvary is getting no love. It's my favorite film of 2014 so far, and it doesn't seem like a total stretch of the imagination to picture it being a film that academy voters would appreciate. I'm also a huge fan of The Double and Snowpiercer, but I don't really hold out any hope for either of those come awards time 😛

The Academy's bias against sci-fi? I dunno, I seem to remember a pure sci-fi movie JUST LAST YEAR called "Gravity" that did mildly well during awards season.

The best thing y'all have done in years is putting Interstellar in your #1.

There is no denying that The Academy is warmed up to the idea of awarding a sci-fi film. Since there have been 9+ Best Picture nominees, an effects-heavy film has grown in presence and darling-ness each year, ending with the most nominations and most wins for any last year with the MOST sci-fi of them all, Gravity. Avatar –> Inception –> Hugo –> Life of Pi –> Gravity. All 5 of these films have lead us to the point where Nolan's Interstellar destroys the entire season and sweeps up everything it's nominated for (except the acting).

Black and white didn't exactly 'die on the vibe' it got a standing ovation and several stellar reviews. Not sure where that's coming from.

I think Nolan needs to learn how to write a third act before he's winning any major awards. All of his films fall apart and completely lose it in the last 30-45 minutes.

Birdman, Foxcatcher, Gone Girl and Interstellar will be nominated, with The Imitation Game a likely nominee following the festival circuit, leaving the last spots to, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inherent Vice, The Theory of Everything, Unbroken and Wild.

Interstellar, lol. Nolan can't buy a Best Director nom–the Academy doesn't like him. As another poster mentioned, the third act is where his movies fail. Fincher's Gone Girl will be flawless and as a two-time nominee, he'll be owed.
