BEST PICTURE:

1. "Gravity" (last week: 3)
This week, the film gets the top slot: stellar reviews and a killer $50 million opening weekend, which puts it on course to at least equal the $600 million haul of "Life Of Pi." It' s likely locked for a Best Picture slot now, but can it do what Ang Lee's film and "Avatar" couldn't, and actually win?

AMERICAN HUSTLE is the most likely to win. It looks like an Oscar friendly and audience friendly film. It's got all the right things in it. If it loses I think it'll be to 12 YEARS A SLAVE, or NEBRASKA. GRAVITY certainly deserves BEST DIRECTOR the most thus far. I mean that was just an amazing direction.

THE BUTLER was one of the most ridiculous films I have ever seen in my life. If it does get nominated it'll be another WAR HORSE/INCREDIBLY LOUD nomination. Such a waste of a spot. It'll make sense with the totally liberal hollywood thing, but whatever.

I am sincerely hoping that Harvey Weinstein–divided loyalties aside in his crop of award worthy films this year–puts tremendous muscle behind a nomination for Michael B. Jordan in "Fruitvale Station" and the film itself. I was incredibly moved by Jordan's performance and the film. They are both still very much with me (even if the buzz has died down a bit with the Hollywood types).

McConaughey is a good actor but it is always some variation of the TX/LA smart Alec. I'll believe he deserves an Oscar when he at least changes geography.

What kind of math did you guys do to reach the conclusion that Gravity would match Life of Pi's worldwide gross?

Life of Pi opened bigger in every single market that Gravity has opened in thus far (sometimes by 3 times as much)
