I\’m torn between Biutiful and In a Better World. The latter wraps up tidy and is particularly strong throughout without being too depressing (like the former). Plus, Bier has been nominated twice before, right? (or did brothers not get nominated?)

but i can also see them giving it to innaritu because he\’s innaritu, because it\’s epic and because it\’s got bardem in it. sounds shallow but it\’s the most \”known\” foreign pic.

haven\’t seen incendies or outside the law yet. wish dogtooth would win.

I appreciate your interest in the technical categories, but if we were to cover them 1) This article would be twenty pages long, and 2) They don\’t have the P.R. back and forth that these categories have had. This isn\’t so much a prediction piece as much as its a borderline Academy politics piece.

You guys are playing right into the Academy\’s farce by ignoring all the \”technical\” awards and focusing on the acting awards. If you guys were Yahoo or Entertainment Weekly I might understand, but you guys don\’t need to do that as your audience would probably be more than willing to read through predictions of who will win best cinematography or best foreign film.

O. Russell had me from the opening tracking shot of \”The Fighter.\” It\’s a crowd-pleaser with all around great storytelling — Oscar 101! I\’m still putting it on my Oscar Pool Picks out of principle, and will always have a chip of disdain for \”King\’s Speech\” as it will probably ultimately make me lose said Oscar pool… but whatever, I\’m totally Franco about it.
