What about Michael Stuhlbarg for A Serious Man? It might lack…Oscarness (Oscarbate-ability?) but considering the apparent lack of competition, he should be nominated.

I've been looking forward to this film ever since I originally covered it in the playlist's Anticipated Films of 2009 feature almost a year ago (before that, I had never heard of it), and I'm glad it might actually make it out in 2009 after all. My only concern is for some reason I can see it playing out like a cable movie of the week or something along the lines of Lucky You. I hope this isn't the case and is more like The Wrestler, as some are comparing the two. I will say it can boast well for Bridges' chance at Oscar gold (or at least another nom) considering the only real contender I'v heard about is Clooney for Up in the Air, and maybe Mortenesen for The Road. I don't know if Daniel Day Lewis will swing on for Nine, but since nobody has really seen it yet, it might be too early to count him out. Any others I'm not thinking about.

Thought the same thing.

theres always one film that comes from left field, but this is actually way late in the game. Normally if it doesn't have buzz by the time Toronto wraps, it's a no go. Bridges is overdue, but we'll see if this is it. I was thinking that he would probably get it in his next outing with the Coens, but looks like it might be sooner.
