"with the disappointing box office for "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby" making that unlikely to figure in anywhere" Every time I hear things like that, as a genuine lover of cinema and actually a fan of the Oscars, my heart breaks to pieces. How in the world can you have a performance like Jessica Chastain\'s towering achievement in "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby" (especially in "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Her") and ignore her? An acting nod, let alone in the most prestigious film awards ceremony, should be all about the PERFORMANCE. I know, it never was nor it will, but, my God, has anyone really saw "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby", especially "Her" version? Has anyone seen the groundbreaking performance Marion Cotillard delivers in "Two days, one night"? If that\'s not an Oscar-worthy performance, nothing is. I\'m not going to be tired of saying this again and again: Marion Cotillard is the ACTRESS of the year. Expectedly, since every year she acts, she\'s the ACTRESS of the year. She can\'t help but be a force of nature every time she\'s on screen. And Moore, wow, I mean her performance in "Maps to the stars" is worthy of a nomination at least. I\'m sure she\'s as incredible as everyone who has seen "Still Alice" says she is, but I really want her marvellous turn as Havana Segrand in Cronenberg\'s film to earn her at least a nomination. It\'s definitely the best performance I\'ve ever saw from Moore since "Magnolia" (and that says a lot, just remember her criminally snubbed performances in films like "A single man" and "The kids are alright"). Oscars have to be aware of what\'s happening in the world, you can\'t leave a performance like Exarchopoulos\' or Larson\'s last year without even a nomination, when individually they\'re worthy of at least a Best Actress win. If they secure an actress as limited as Witherspoon as a lock for "Wild" and Cotillard and Chastain struggle to get in, then why should I watch the 87th Academy Awards ceremony? I mean, really, why the Academy keeps on disappointing fans of the show but also genuine cinephiles over and over again? What in the world Witherspoon, Bullock or Berry have to do with the Oscars? Scarlett Johansson has never been nominated. I mean, for Christ\'s sake! Bring the talent back! Fill the Best Actress category with actresses and performances like Marion Cotillard\'s in "Two Days, One Night", Jessica Chastain\'s in "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Her", Julianne Moore\'s in "Maps to the stars"... That\'s acting! Cotillard gave not one, but TWO (!) performances in the ages in films released in the same year in the U.S. in 2014. Just remember her hauntingly beautiful work in "The Immigrant" (I know, who saw it to remember it? Ugh!) I was over the moon watching last year Cate Blanchett\'s monumental tour de force winning the Best Actress Oscar, but how Sandra Bullock\'s (very strong undoubtedly) performance for "Gravity" was nominated but Exarchopoulos\' unforgettable work in "Blue is the warmest color" wasn\'t? Is there really a comparison? Is there anyone who really knows about cinema out there and doesn\'t think Emma Thompson should have been nominated for "Saving Mr. Banks"? The one performance I\'m more than excited to watch at everyone\'s predictions is Rosamund Pike\'s brilliant turn in "Gone Girl". If she\'s going to win, she\'ll be more than deserving, there\'s not a hint of doubt about that.

It will be interesting to see if the hype for Julianne Moore lasts into January. The problem is, Still Alice doesn\'t live up to her performance, so it may all fall apart when it comes down to the nominations. It doesn\'t help that the movie looks a bit like it was made for TV.
