‘Oppenheimer’ Featurette: Here’s A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Christopher Nolan’s Ambitious Summer Spectacle

On paper, a period drama about the creation of the Atomic Bomb isn’t necessarily the type of thing that demands a $200 million budget and IMAX cameras. But in the hands of filmmaker Christopher Nolan, a man who could make a paper bag look epic in scope, this story is “Oppenheimer” and has turned into perhaps the biggest release of the summer.

And in a new featurette about the creation of Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” we are introduced to the myriad reasons why the filmmaker’s latest vision might be his most epic and complicated yet. Sure, this is a drama about one man and his pursuit of a scientific first, but it’s also about an event that very easily could have resulted in the end of the world. So, to help bring this to life, Nolan pulled together the very best cast and crew he could.

In the cast, the ensemble is led by Nolan veteran, Cillian Murphy. But he’s joined by what might be the most star-studded cast this side of a Marvel Studios film. Supporting Murphy are folks like Emily Blunt, Robert Downey, Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh

Obviously, a large part of the promotion of “Oppenheimer” is about the spectacle. And judging by the featurette, there is plenty of spectacle to be had. Everything is shot on IMAX, which is pushed heavily by the cast and crew, as everyone is begging the audience to see this film on the biggest, best screen possible. And there is a tease about the scene everyone is eagerly anticipating, which is the Trinity test where they explode the bomb.

“Oppenheimer” is set to arrive in theaters on July 21. You can watch the featurette below:
